Keep the 4.8. It is as bulletproof as the 5.3 and 5.7. The only difference that i know of between 4.8 & 5.3 is heads and in think maybe cam. It still has the 4L60E and with it being 4×4 it should have 3.73 gears. Of you do anything add a cold air intake, exhaust, tune and maybe a heavy duty towing kit to the tranny.

Also, the turbo lag must be incredible. That said, 1200+ hp out of a 4.8L LS engine is insanity. 4.09hp/ci. Shows how well engineered and robust the LS is. The smaller bore motors (4.8 and 5.3) handle boost especially well because the cylinder walls are thicker than their bigger bore counterparts.

Besides you have a 4.8 the weaker of the 3 you wouldn’t have the issue of needing more spark only the 5.3 and 6.0. Believe me the 6.0 needs way more spark than the 4.8. I’ve had 1, 4.8. 2, 6.0s 1, 5,3. So yes you could run square or round on the 4.8 but not so for 6.0.

Early 5.3 LS engines had lifter issues due to the then newfangled AFM lifters failing. This long after the issues must have been worked out just something you need to look for, lifter clatter or ticking is easy to spot too. This is an expensive problem to fix as far as I know.

Early 5.3 LS engines had lifter issues due to the then newfangled AFM lifters failing. This long after the issues must have been worked out just something you need to look for, lifter clatter or ticking is easy to spot too. This is an expensive problem to fix as far as I know.

Aug 20, 2008 · In theory the 5.3 should beat a 4.8. But there are some cases where that doesnt happen. Ive seen some 4.8s beat 5.3s and vise versa. And yea they were stock.Some guys know it all when it comes to the numbers but ive seen the numbers get proven wrong in a few cases.

Back in the old days,the “small V8” was always known for better fuel economy (318 vs 360,302 vs 351,305 vs 350),with todays technology you can have it all in one engine.I think this is why you dont see many 4.8s,4.7s,4.6s….but you see plenty of 5.3s,5.7 HEMIs and 5.4 Tritons.

Its too bad because the rod length, rod ratio and lightest weight pistons in stock form make it the best motor to push to HUGE power numbers on stock junk. I do have a 5.3 block that i could just grab and go but i really want to use the 6 liters 4.00 bore and pistons.

Also, the turbo lag must be incredible. That said, 1200 hp out of a 4.8L LS engine is insanity. 4.09hp/ci. Shows how well engineered and robust the LS is. The smaller bore motors (4.8 and 5.3) handle boost especially well because the cylinder walls are thicker than their bigger bore counterparts.

May 01, 2005 · Chevrolet Silverado 1999-2006: 5.3L vs. 5.7L V8 Engine Differences. Chevrolet offered the 5.7 liter vortec engine in some of its 1999 C1500 pickups. During 1999 the 5.7 was phased out and GM introduced the 5.3 liter. The reasoning for this transition was to improve on the 1500’s fuel economy and reduce its emissions output.
Besides you have a 4.8 the weaker of the 3 you wouldn’t have the issue of needing more spark only the 5.3 and 6.0. Believe me the 6.0 needs way more spark than the 4.8. I’ve had 1, 4.8. 2, 6.0s 1, 5,3. So yes you could run square or round on the 4.8 but not so for 6.0.

4) Some Quick Tips on “LS” Machine Work. Once you’ve got the right core, and all your parts selected, it’s time to do the machine work. Machine work on an LS re-build can range from a quick hone to clean up the cylinder walls on a stock refresher build, to boring out the cylinders for maximum displacement (if you’ve got an iron-block).

Besides you have a 4.8 the weaker of the 3 you wouldn’t have the issue of needing more spark only the 5.3 and 6.0. Believe me the 6.0 needs way more spark than the 4.8. I’ve had 1, 4.8. 2, 6.0s 1, 5,3. So yes you could run square or round on the 4.8 but not so for 6.0.

    Besides you have a 4.8 the weaker of the 3 you wouldn’t have the issue of needing more spark only the 5.3 and 6.0. Believe me the 6.0 needs way more spark than the 4.8. I’ve had 1, 4.8. 2, 6.0s 1, 5,3. So yes you could run square or round on the 4.8 but not so for 6.0.

    Besides you have a 4.8 the weaker of the 3 you wouldn’t have the issue of needing more spark only the 5.3 and 6.0. Believe me the 6.0 needs way more spark than the 4.8. I’ve had 1, 4.8. 2, 6.0s 1, 5,3. So yes you could run square or round on the 4.8 but not so for 6.0.

    Sep 26, 2013 · Yeah 4.8’s are definitely the bastard child of the LS family. Its too bad because the rod length, rod ratio and lightest weight pistons in stock form make it the best motor to push to HUGE power numbers on stock junk. I do have a 5.3 block that i could just grab and go but i really want to use the 6 liters 4.00 bore and pistons.

    Aug 20, 2008 · In theory the 5.3 should beat a 4.8. But there are some cases where that doesnt happen. Ive seen some 4.8s beat 5.3s and vise versa. And yea they were stock.Some guys know it all when it comes to the numbers but ive seen the numbers get proven wrong in a few cases.
